Our major aim is to get people skilled, meet up industrial demands-MYTC

The Administrator, Multipurpose Youth Training Center, MYTC, Egbokodo-Itsekiri in Warri South Local Government Area, Delta State, Mrs. Okonye Peace Oreva, says the major aim of the centre is to get people skilled with less emphasis on certificate and empower them to meet up industrial demands.  

 

The MYTC Administrator who gave the explanation in an interview with select-newsmen at the vocational institution, noted that the center was established in 2012 by the Delta State Government to address youth restiveness.  

 

Mrs. Okonye disclosed that the centre currently runs vocational courses in Welding and Fabrication, Electrical Installation and Appliance/Maintenance, Carpentry/ Joinery, Catering/Hotel Management, Tailoring and Fashion Design, Hair Dressing/ Cosmetology, ICT, Motor Mechanics, Diesel Plant/Fitting & Maintenance, Entrepreneurship training, life skills, English Language and Mathematics.

 

She assured prospective students that the training lasts for maximum of six months and minimum of three months, with 80 percent practical and 20 percent theory, stressing that facilities at the training centre are world class.  

 

Mrs. Okonye stated that every candidate that passes the centre’s competent test after graduation, will get starter-pack from the state government as part of efforts to encourage industrialization by indigenes of the state.

 

While appealing to local government chairmen across Delta State, cooperate organizations and well-meaning individuals to sponsor trainees, Mrs. Okonye noted that graduates of the centre would go home with NABTEB and NSQF trade test professional certificates.

 

She called on Deltans to patronize MYTC, disclosing that the center which currently has about 300 students, can accommodate 500 trainees.
