Group threatens to cripple the Oil, Gas industry over new NDDC Appointments

A Delta State based youth group, Concerned Nigerians for Good Governance, CNGG, has reportedly threatened to cripple the Nation’s oil and gas industry, over the non-appointment of an Itsekiri indigene into the new board of Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC.

A Warri Based Media Consultant, reports that the Chairman of CNGG, Mr. Nosakhare Omorodion and the Secretary, Mr. Omabegho Mathew, noted during a media chat that, “diplomacy appeared to have failed and we know the language the Federal and State Governments understand most. Violence is the most available commodity to dispense in the region with lethal consequences”.

The CNGG had some weeks ago reportedly canvassed reasons why an Itsekiri indigene should be appointed into key position in the new board of NDDC, insisting it is the turn of Itsekiri Nation as the highest producer of crude oil in Delta State, to produce key member of the intervention agency.

The group wondered why the All Progressives Congress, APC would treat Itsekiri Nation in such manner, after, “key Itsekiri-born politicians fought gallantly in Delta State to ensure a second term victory for President Buhari in the just concluded 2019 general elections”, saying the appointments so far by the Federal Government, “amount to bad faith and a disregard for APC big wigs from the 3 Warri Local Government Areas with oil and gas resources”.

“To whom much is given, much is also expected. We have been too docile and non-violent and this position has taken the Itsekiri people backwards politically in recent times.

The dissemination of nuisance is not the preserve of any one group. This is the time to challenge the status-quo and change the narratives. We shall take concrete steps to call urgent attention to our plight. This oppression is too over- bearing on us. We can no longer tolerate it.

The provisions of the Act establishing the NDDC is clear on how to appoint persons into positions from the Nine (9) oil producing states in the federation and we insist that it is our turn”, the pro Itsekiri group emphasized.
