Avenue Baptist Church, ABC, recently emerged champions of Delta State, winning Saviors’ Cup and highest goal scorer award of the tournament.

Playing with Four Square Gospel Church in the final of Saviors’ Cup at the Warri City Stadium, Avenue Baptist Church defeated their opponent two goals to nil.

Our Senior Correspondent reports that the encounter which was keenly contested saw the Four Square Gospel side coming out offensive in the 15th minute of the first half with a corner kick, which was well defended by Avenue Baptist Church soccer team.

In the 18th minute, the ABC team had a very close chance missed by Jessy no.2, Okezin. In the second half, ABC team came out more offensive, launching more attack on their Four Square opponent, which led to a goal by ABC striker, Omo in the 17th minute.

Due to the persistent pressure launched by ABC team, one of its players was brought down by the Four Square team goal tender, Moses Aluya at the 18 yard box and the resultant penalty was converted by ABC team striker, Melvin, thereby bringing the goals to 2 nil, which was the final score.

Organizer of the tournament, Pastor Daniel Oruma promised that 2015 edition will be more dramatic and that more Churches are expected to participate.

The highest goal scorer award went to Avenue Baptist Church striker, Mevin, while second place went to Four Square Gospel Church, Warri, third position went to Pavillion of Grace Church, Warri.
