The Delta State Government, says it has successfully resolved the longstanding boundary dispute between the Aladja and Ogbe-Ijoh Communities.
The said resolution, was announced by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu, during an extensive stakeholders meeting convened at the SSG's office.
Dr. Emu, outlined the historical efforts made by past administrations, both military and civilian, to address the conflict, including the establishment of various inquiry panels and private mediation initiatives, all of which failed to yield a lasting solution.
According to the SSG, under the leadership of the immediate past administration of Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, significant progress was made in demarcating boundaries between the communities, albeit with some contentious areas remaining unresolved.
Building on these efforts, the present administration, recognizing the crucial importance of peace for development, reportedly facilitated a dialogue involving youth leaders and other stakeholders from both communities.
The two-day consultation, was said to have resulted in comprehensive resolutions aimed at achieving unanimity and providing recommendations that would be binding for both parties.
The outcome of this engagement paved the way for the enlarged stakeholders meeting, underscoring the government's unwavering commitment to ending the dispute and fostering an environment conducive to development and harmony.
The State Government, has endorsed the boundary line established by the Special Adviser on Peace Building and Conflict Resolution, with additional measures taken to acquire the remaining disputed territory for reserve purposes.
Representatives from both communities, expressed appreciation for the government's proactive approach and emphasized the need for sincerity and cooperation to ensure lasting peace.
The meeting, reportedly graced by dignitaries including the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, the State Attorney General, Commissioners, and other key officials, concluded with gratitude extended to Governor Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff Oborevwori for his steadfast leadership and commitment to the peace process.
The pivotal gathering also included representatives from various security agencies, further underscoring the comprehensive and collaborative nature of the resolution process.
