Security: Kogi Lawmakers, Security Chiefs in close door meeting

The Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Abdullahi Chafe and members of the Kogi State House of Assembly was in a closed door meeting to discuss security situation of the State.

The meeting which lasted over four hours has in attendance top Security Chiefs in the State leading to the suspension of the days plenary.

The House last week in a motion moved by Hon. Mohammed Lawi Ahmed summoned the Police Commissioner to appear before it over the spate of kidnapping in the State.

The Lawmaker argued that despite measures put in place by the current administration such as the donation of over 100 security vehicles, procurement of helicopter, deployment of special squad in the State, in spite of all these measures put in place, kidnappings or matters related with it is on the increase.

Briefing journalist after the meeting, the State Commissioner of Police, Abdullahi Chafe said, it wasn't a meeting but a normal interaction between security agencies and lawmakers in the State.

On whether he appeared in the House based on the resolution of last week sitting on the spate of kidnapping in the State, the Police Chief described it as communication gap which has been addressed.

He noted that since he assumed office in Kogi State, kidnapping, armed robbery has reduced drastically denouncing his awareness of the kidnap of prominent traditional rulers in the State.

According to Chafe, it is the duty of the Police to protect foreign investors adding that, the recent directive to assign security personnel to Chinese officials is to strengthen bilateral relationship between Nigeria and its foreign partners.

Chafe also reacted on the incident which happened in Enjema in Ankpa Local Government Area where properties were destroyed and lives lost. According to the Police boss, it wasn't a communal clash but a probable homicide which is currently under investigation.

Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Ahmed Imam explained to journalists that the lawmakers has discussed extensively with the Security Chief and also chatted way forward on how security could be improved in Kogi State.
