AMK/NUGA Basketball: 10 teams qualify from Lagos

Ten teams have qualified from the preliminary rounds at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) centre in the maiden of Ahmadu Musa Kida (AMK) Foundation/Nigeria Universities Games (NUGA) Annual 3-Aside Basketball Tournament 2017.

Our Kaduna State Correspondent reports that NUGA Basketball Chairman, Professor Adamu Ahmed, disclose this to newsmen in Kaduna Monday February 20.

He said that 10 more teams will qualify from the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria qualifiers which will commence on Friday.

According to him, 10 more teams will qualify from Zaria to join those from Lagos at the final is billed for Abuja from March 2 to 4.

“It was a brilliant outing; I must commend all the teams that participated for their wonderful performances. With what I am seeing, Nigeria will be well represented when the winner final emerges from Abuja to compete in the World Universities Tournament.

“The officiating has also improved tremendously, we are seeing Nigeria going higher as a result of this competition,’ he added.

Professor Ahmed praised the AMK Foundation for keeping faith with NUGA Basketball in bankrolling the competition, while assuring that all those that will play in the final will be published after those that qualify from Zaria emerge at the weekend.

The AMK Foundation is a non profit charity organization with interest in youths empowerment through sports. President of the Foundation Engr Musa Ahmadu Kida, is a former senior National Basketball player and Board member of the Nigeria Basketball Federation. He also serves on the Board of Trustees of the ABU Basketball Foundation.

Professor Ahmed is one time National Basketball team player and Chairman Technical Committee of the Nigeria Basketball Federation.

It would be recalled that AMK Foundation has for two years running been the sole sponsor of the West Africa 3 Aside basketball tournament.
