In-line with the renewed resolve to stop street trading and illegal parking in a bid to ease traffic congestion in Warri, Authorities of Warri South Local Government Area on Tuesday February 21 opened up the congested Hausa Quarters by Igbudu Market along Warri Sapele Road and impounded no fewer than seven defaulting Tricycles.

The evacuation of vehicles and Tricycles wrongly parked along the busy road was coordinated on behalf of Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Hon. Matthew Mofe Edema by the Council’s Supervisor for Environment, Mr. Kenneth George and the Head of Environment Department, Comrade Solomon Edafe Umukoro.

Our Correspondents who monitored the exercise report that the Council Officials backed by Men of the Nigerian Police Force and Nigeria Civil Defence Corps, cleared about 1.5km stretch of the Warri Sapele Road from God’s Kingdom Society, GKS to Conoil Filling Station and pushed traders about 30metres backwards from the major road.

Speaking exclusively to Fresh Angle International during the exercise, the Warri South Council Supervisor for Environment, Mr. Kenneth George explained that the essence was to ensure that owners of vehicles and Tricycles park at the 30metres range created outside the major road so as to ensure free flow of traffic.

Mr. George while noting that the Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Hon. Matthew Mofe Edema has directed that strict survelliance be consistently carried out to avoid a situation where the traders and vehicle owners return to the road, warned that defaulters caught will be apprehended and handed over to security agencies.
