The Majority Leader of Kogi State House of Assembly, Hon. Mathew Kolawole says before he became a legislator, he engaged in menial jobs including hawking newspapers on the street to sponsor his education, Fresh Angle International can report.

Hon. Kolawole who is representing Kabba/Bunu stated this in Kabba during the closing ceremony of Kabba/Bunu Inter Secondary Schools Quiz and Prize Giving Competition 2017 which he sponsored as part of his commitment to improve the standard of education in his constituency.

Our Kogi State Correspondent reports that the lawmaker while encouraging all participating schools reiterated his great passion for education considering the fact he was not privileged to be fed with a golden spoon.

According to Kolawole, "you can see that the road was actually rough for me then, but I was determined to scale through all hurdles. My students and our future leaders, if I can make it in life, in spite of my disadvantages, you can also", and averred that, education remains the best investment a parent should bestow on a child in order to make him/her self reliant.

He advised parents to invest in their children’s education even as he charged students to help out their parents financially through fruitful ventures. In his words, "for this reason, I implore our parents to invest hugely on the education of our children. And you students, you know that your parents are financially unstable, you can help out by engaging in fruitful ventures that can help ameliorate their situation. Please don't be caught in the wave of crime, drug taking, cultism, and other social vices that could be inimical to your health and the society at large."

He rolled out some of his achievements in two years among which are, sinking of seven new borehole in 7 wards, huge investment in education, sport promotion, and empowerment programme designed to alleviate the sufferings of the indigent people of his constituent.

Speaking also at the school, the Kogi State Commissioner for Education, Hon. Tolorunleke said the Governor has great passion for education. According to him, any investment in education cannot be a waste but rather a great plan for the future.

He noted, "when we came into power, education was so bastardized. As we speak, Governor Bello is rolling out some program that will alleviate the sufferings of parents while training their children in school."
