The Management of Benin Electricity Distribution Company, PLC, BEDC has assured its customers in Edo, Delta, Ekiti and Ondo States of improved power supply.

The Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer of BEDC, Mrs. Funke Osibodu gave the assurance Friday June 9 at the company's headquarters in Benin City, Edo State, during a media parley with select-journalists about the activities of BEDC.

The BEDC Boss noted that the major challenge facing the company's operation is non-payment of electrity bills, stressing that non-payment of electrity bills by consumers will lead to non-availability of power supply to those huge debt profile areas.

Mrs. Osibodu explained that the company's priority is to improve power supply to customers that pay their bills promptly, hence they always allocate more power supply to customers in  the industrial and commercial sectors as well as residential areas that regularize their payments.

She revealed that BEDC plans to release over one hundred thousand prepaid and post paid metres to customers as part of efforts to improve power supply.

Mrs. Osibodu appealed to Ondo and Ekiti States' consumers to pay their bills and assured them of restoring power in the next two months, urging the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN to do the needful.

The Manager, Health, Safety and Environment, HSE, BEDC, Mr. Gilbert Nweke stated that several measures have been taken to curb activities of vandals, while also revealing that four persons have been convicted for vandalising BEDC facilities in the last one year, warning those using free electricity to desist from doing so in order to avoid electrocution and other related accidents.

The BEDC Executive Director Commercial, Mr. Abu Ejoor revealed that the company has installed over one hundred and fifty thousand metres, noting that the company will soon be phasing out analogue metres and  replace them with prepaid metres.

Engr. Ashok who is  In-charge of power distribution, disclosed that Edo, Delta, Ekiti and Ondo States  requires between  1,200-1,500 mega wats of electrity to give the people 24/hrs power supply, but noting that for now they can only distribute 6-12 hours power per day, pending improvement from Generation Company of Nigeria, GENCO, Transmission Company of Nigeria TCN, and other relevant agencies.

Mrs. Felicia Nlemoha doled out the new payment option by BEDC, which include use of POS, buying online and the most recent awaiting scratch card method recharging system, which according to her can be purchased everywhere within the neighborhood.
