Police arrest sales girl who specializes in stealing phones

The Kogi State Police Command has apprehended a sales girl, Ikaba Augustina who specializes in stealing customers’ handset at a drinking joint, Our Kogi State Correspondent reports.

The disclosure was contained in a press statement signed by the Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, Williiam Aya and made available to Journalists in Lokoja Monday August 7.

Aya Stated that the operatives attached to 'B' Division Felele arrested one Ikaba Augustina who was suspected to have stolen a Samsung Galaxy Note 3x and Infinix Hurt at the Okadigbo drinking joint in Felele, suburb of Lokoja in  Lokoja Local Government of Kogi State.

"The two GSM phones belong to one Dr. Lanre Makinde Hassan of Otikiti, who reported at the Division that, he visited the joint and left. On his way home, he discovered that his two phones were missing, he then returned to the joint but could not find the phones on the table where he left them", Williiam Aya said.

The PPRO noted that acting on the report, detectives attached to 'B' Division Felele, Lokoja swung into action. The detectives discovered that Ikaba Augustina took the phones and hid them in the ceiling of her room for nine days before she was arrested.

“Unfortunately for her, the electricity in the house where she is living is faulty and her room is the only access to get to the ceiling. The electrician while trying to repair the light in the ceiling recovered the phones and handed them over to the landlord, one Abdulfatai Yahaya.

In the process, one of the phones was put into use which resulted to attempted fraud of 2.5m in the Zenith Bank. The two phones were recovered from the suspect, while the owner when contacted confirmed ownership of the items. The suspect confessed to the crime, while investigation is in progress,” he explained.

Aya said that the suspected would soon be charged to court immediately as soon  the investigation is concluded.
