AYIRIMI EMAMI, AN ITSEKIRI NATIONALIST RECEIVING ROYAL HONOUR
Ayirimi Emami

The journey of young Itsekiri Nationalist and Niger Delta activist, Mr. Ayirimi Emami, is indeed an interesting tale. Mr. Ayirimi Emami who was born almost four decades ago to the family of Late Chief Akonu Emami (one of Iwere nation most hardworking Chief and Businessman), rose from a home grown Iwere boy to a successful businessman, peace crusader, astute politician and passionate advocate for the all round development of Warri Kingdom.

By way of genealogical introduction, Ayirimi Emami is a descendant of Ajuwaoyiboyami (abrv. IYA) who was an influential son of Ologbotsere Eyinmisan of Warri kingdom, Tosan Ekpen of Okere, Ejuetseolegho Miemie of Kantu, Unokanereorun (Kere) Ogitsi of Omadino and Kolokolo, Olueh of Ugborodo, all of Warri Kingdon, Tovwie of Okwagbe, Delta State (among others) and Ogunfeyinmi of Ugbo in Ondo State.

The fact that Ayirimi Emami as a young man has held amiable positions such as member of Board of NigerCat Construction Company, PRO of Ugborodo Community Trust, prominent member and later Chairman of the dissolved Delta Waterways Security Committee, PDP Chairman, Warri South West Local Government and currently Chairman of Chevron established Itsekiri Oil and Gas Producing/Impacted Communities Development Committee, amongst others, is an eloquent testimony of his breathless passion for service.

His philanthropic gestures which has seen him empowering as well as creating jobs for men, women and youths across the length and breadth of Delta State, not minding where such persons hail from is not just exemplary and commendable, but sound attributes of an emerging statesman. As a businessman and community activist, Mr. Ayirimi Emami has been in the fore front of attracting both government and international oil companies’ attention to the neglected oil rich coastal communities, a dogged struggle that some times meet stiff opposition from constituted authorities.

Little wonder the Otiri, Abotor, Awani and larger Edo-Iya family and indeed a broad spectrum of Itsekiris have embraced the anticipated conferment of chieftaincy title on Ayirimi Emami by the revered Olu of Warri, His Majesty, Ogiame Atuwatse II (CON). Mr. Emami’s much anticipated conferment as a chief in Warri Kingdom by the Olu will be a befitting recognition to his immense contributions to Warri Kingdom in particular and Niger Delta in general.

A one-time Supervisory Councillor in the then Warri South Local Government and chieftain of the PDP, Mr. Julius Otiri recently told a selected team of media practitioners in Warri that the Otiri , Abotor and Awani family is indeed grateful to the Warri Monarch for deeming it fit to honour one of its own with the chieftaincy conferment slated for April 28, 2012. According to him, the family is even more gladdened that the royal honour coincides with the silver jubilee of the Olu.

While arrangements are in top gear to make the conferment ceremony have all the trappings of elegance the Itsekiri people of Niger Delta are known for, the chieftaincy conferment on Mr. Emami and others is expected to kick start the grand 25th coronation anniversary of the Olu of Warri, which is expected to attract a colourful array of distinguished Itsekiris and non Itsekiris across the globe.
