Ubeji Tanker Explosion: Environmentalist blames lack of fire stations for losses
The inferno

An environmentalist and councillorship aspirant in the forthcoming Delta State Local Government Election, Omawumi Elete has blamed the lack of fire stations at strategic locations between Ubeji, Egbokodo and Ifiekporo communities as reason for the monumental damage caused by the tanker explosion that occurred at Ubeji, Warri at about 8:30pm Thursday September 7.

Omawumi Elete who is contesting the Ubeji/Egbokodo ward councillorship position in the forthcoming Local Government Election told Fresh Angle International Friday September 8 at the scene of the inferno that the lack of strategic fire fighting stations from Ifiekporo to Ubeji was a major risk to residents and business owners in the fast rising business hub of Warri.

He appealed to owners of tank farms at Ifiekporo to ensure prompt and adequate compensation to victims of the tanker explosion which affected about 1km stretch of shops and other business concerns.

The Warri South councillorship frontrunner enjoined the Delta State Government to take advantage of the unfortunate incident to monitor the contractor handling the Ubeji Road expansion project, alleging that the slow pace of work may be the reason the diesel carrying tanker exploded.

Elete congratulated the member representing Warri South Constituency 1 in Delta State House of Assembly for her appointment as the Chairman House Committee on Agriculture and Natural Resources, calling on her to use her good office to bring succor to the good people of Ubeji/Egbokodo ward that were affected by the explosion.
