Teachers of Aladja Community in Udu local government area, Delta State have neglected their primary responsibilities and turned their classrooms and offices to a place of buying and selling, Fresh Angle investigation reveals.
Our Senior Correspondent who was at Aladja Grammar School, Aladja on Tuesday February 4, 2014 reports that the Home Economics teacher for JSS II (name withheld) like other female teachers sells notebooks, writing pens, vegetables, beans, sachet water, soft drinks and kerosene during school hours to fellow teachers and students thereby making teaching and learning difficult.
A student of the school who spoke to Fresh Angle on condition of anonymity said they "hardly learn anything especially when the teachers start selling their items", adding that “they use the time for lessons as time for market and it is affecting us".
Some male teachers of the school who spoke to Our Senior Correspondent in disguise said “all our attempts to convince the female teachers to stop the school trade have fallen on deaf ears. The more we talk, the more they go deep in it and there's nothing we can do about it than to continue talking to them".
Another school in Udu local government area where teachers are involved in "class trading" is Ovwian Secondary School, Ovwian.
Attempts to reach Education Marshalls hired by the Delta State government in the area via mobile phone to comment on the ugly development were futile.
