Delta Poly Oghara matriculates 1,500 students

Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe -Oghara, on Friday March 14 matriculated 1,500 new students in its OND and HND programmes for the 2013/2014 academic session, Our Delta Central Correspondent reports.

The first female substantive Rector of the Institution, Dr. (Mrs.) Clara Eworhowo Sogbaikein her welcome address at the matriculation ceremony held at the School of Applied Sciences and Technology Auditorium enjoined the matriculants to desist from unproductive and unwholesome activities such as cultism, examination malpractice, act of hooliganism as well as other actions inimical to their growth in the Polytechnic.

 

She admonished the matriculants to be diligent in their studies, warning that the Institution has zero tolerance for examination malpractice. According to her, ten HND students were expelled in the 2011/2012 academic session by the school academic board.

 

Dr. Sogbaike added that "discipline and good conduct are necessary ingredients for effective learning and that certificates would be awarded only to those students who are found worthy in character and in learning".

The Rector advised the students to obey all regulations of the school as well as make use of the library and computer centre, explaining that the polytechnic is striving to create an institution where students can develop useful skills and knowledge for self employment after graduation.

 She revealed that through the TETFUND and internally generated revenue, the Polytechnic has been able to build a story-building for academic and non-academic staff as well as for students while management is poised to provide more infrastructures in the institution.

 

Delta State Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Hope Eghagha who was represented by Mrs. Stella Agbeyeke congratulated the newly admitted students and encouraged them to take their studies seriously and shun vices such as examination malpractice and cultism.

The Registrar of the institution, Mr. Benson Omonode who admitted the matriculation oath on the fresh students, advised them to refrain from any form of anti-social behavior, warning that any student caught in such acts would be sent out of the institution.

 

In the same vein, the Transition Committee Chairman of Ethiope West Local Government Area, Hon. Precious Ajaino, in his remark commended the Rector of the Polytechnic for brining sanity to the Institution.

 

 In an exclusive chat with Fresh Angle, the Dean of Student Affairs of the Polytechnic, Mr. Samuel Enudi advised students to strive for excellence in their academic pursue.
