Melaye’s questionable character precludes him from Delta affairs-DESOPOGA

A Niger Delta group, Delta State Oil Producing Communities’ Graduates Association, DESOPOGA has taken a swipe at the Executive Secretary of Anti Corruption Network, Hon. Dino Melaye over his recent call on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC to investigate Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan over the alleged questionable spending of N 9.4 billion excess crude fund.

The group sought to know why the ex-lawmaker did not start by checking and publishing his home state, Kogi expenditure before attempting to delve into Delta State affairs, stressing that after all there is an African adage which states that charity begins at home.

DESOPOGA described Hon. Dino Melaye “ whose violent disposition was evident during his days at the House of Representatives where he had fisticuffs with some of his fellow lawmakers, his alleged domestic violence involving his wife as well as his close association with controversial businessmen” as attributes which precludes him from meddling into Delta State affairs.

President of DESOPOGA, Comrade Agbefe Sebastine at a media parley in Warri Thursday March 27 described the statement credited to Hon. Melaye on the N 9.4 billion excess crude fund as “fraudulently motivated to arm-twist the Delta State government for financial inducement”, adding that the former lawmaker cum anti corruption activist “has been living on monies arm-twisted from government and his closed friends who are known illegal oil bunkerers and 419ners”.

Comrade Agbefe who challenged Hon. Melaye to tell Nigerians where he got money to acquire his fleet of cars, stated that DESOPOGA is not “ignorant of the fact that Hon. Melaye’s closest friends’ means of livelihood are tied to illegal oil bunkering .

He wondered “why the ex-lawmaker has not called on the EFCC to investigate his friends whose “illegal business is helping to milk the nation’s economy dry”, noting that Deltans have learnt to honour their own and would no longer repeat the mistake of the Ibori saga “because politicians with proven corruption records are today being celebrated by their states and are delegates of the ongoing Confab”.

DESOPOGAwhile urging the former lawmaker to channel his energy towards fighting corruption in his home state of Kogi, Comrade Agbefe advised him to prevail on the EFCC to investigate his kinsmen, Austen Oniwon, a former Group Managing Director of the NNPC whose administration allegedly contributed to the alleged huge sleaze in NNPC as well as another of his Kogi brother, Jide Omokore whose firm, Atlantic Energy Drilling Concept controversially bought OMLs 30, 34, 26 and 42 formerly belonging to SPDC at an abysmally low price  without living up to its corporate social responsibility towards people of the Niger Delta.
