No congress was held in Warri South-West, APC Chairman raises alarm

Chairman of All Progressives Congress, APC in Warri South-West Local Government Area, Mr. Felix Ighomeyintan has declared that the local government congress of the party scheduled for Saturday April 12 at Ogbe-Ijoh, headquarters of the local government did not hold despite assurances by the state party leadership that materials were dispatched to the local government for the exercise.

Mr. Felix Ighomeyintan who led other party officials in the local government to protest the non conduct of the congress at Ogbe-Ijoh at about 4:15pm Saturday April 12 alleged that materials meant for the conduct of the congress were hijacked, noting that they waited from 8am through 4pm when the exercise was billed to end before staging the protest.

He vowed that they will petition the leadership of the party to prevent anyone from going ahead “to forge result”.

A Chieftain of the party in the area, Mr. Toju Omadeli who also spoke to newsmen said they will not tolerate imposition of party leaders, stressing that what they desire in APC is genuine internal democracy.

Our Correspondentreports that the protesters who were mostly youths of Ijaw and Itsekiri extractions carried placards with inscriptions like “No APC Congress in Warri-West” “No Congress held! Please help us in Warri-South-West, Help” “What is the future of APC in Warri South-West LGA?” “APC Congress hijacked in Warri South-West LGA” and “APC Needs Internal Democracy in Warri South-West LGA”.

Some of the protesters alleged that materials meant for the congress in the local government area may have been diverted to the residence of some individuals in the party which has been bedeviled with leadership crisis at the state level.
