The community square at Bomadi, headquarters of Bomadi local government was filled to capacity when illustrious sons and daughters of the community both at home and abroad gathered to raise fund for the take-off of a polytechnic in Bomadi established by Delta State government.
Chairman of the fund raising committee, Chief Godspower Oporomo during the fund raising noted that the Ijaws are happy with Delta State government for establishing a polytechnic in Bomadi, adding that there is need to support the government in making the institution a reality.
Chief Oporomo said the fund raising committee, which was set up by Chief M. B. Mieyibo, a former Amananaowei of Bomadi is to work closely with the state government and provide support in any area of need to facilitate the early take-off of academic activities in the polytechnic.
He added that the funds realized would be used through direct labour to renovate and rehabilitate the dilapidated structures of former Eseneabe College buildings, which was donated to the state government as the temporary site for the institution to take off in September this year.
According to Chief Oporomo, “the launching was successful. The success of the launching I believe demonstrates how strong we embrace the institution and our desire for its smooth take-off. We are going to use the funds to refurbish the structures of the temporary site, which are in deplorable condition. The Ijaws are happy with His Excellency, the Governor of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan for establishing a higher institution for us. Bomadi being a gateway to the Ijaw nation and where most notable Ijaw sons and daughters were educated is strategic for higher institution to be sited. This is why the institution is not only established for the Bomadi people alone, but the entire Ijaws in general”.
He averred that the fund raising became necessary to assist government in ways that will complement the early take-off of the polytechnic, just as he said, “we are doing everything possible to support state government. We provided land for the permanent site where work is already ongoing and we are now raising funds for the rehabilitation of structures at the temporary location in order for academic activates to resume. Let me use this medium to express my profound gratitude to all those who have generously contributed in this regard through donations”.
Also speaking, Delta State Publicity Secretary of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Hon. Deingha Macauley and the Senior Special Assistant to Delta State Governor on Security, Hon. Donbraye Omoro in the separate statements, thanked Governor Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan for establishing a higher institution in Bomadi.
