A female graduate of Agricultural Education from Delta State University, DELSU, Abraka, Miss Madamedon Endurance .A. with Matriculation number, FOE/08/09/152571 has sued her alma-mater, DELSU for twelve million naira (N 12 million) as damages over purported refusal to clear her for the compulsory National Youth Service Corps Scheme after completing her 3-year programme.
The claimant in a Suit No. HeI/24/2014 filed on her behalf at the High Court of Delta State of Nigeria in the Isiokolo Judicial Division Holden at Isiokolo by her attorney, F.J. Atie Esq, is praying the court to compel the 1st defendant, Delta State University and the 2nd defendant, the Vice Chancellor of the Institution to clear her, “ having met all her academic requirements in order for her to embark on her National Youth Service immediately “ after denial for three consecutive batches between 2012 and 2013 despite being listed for the programme.
According to the claimant, “there was no discrimination/ segregation of any kind against the University of Benin” where she obtained a Diploma in Agricultural Economics in 2004/2005 Session which qualified her to study Agricultural Education in DELSU.
She averred that she was offered provisional admission to read Agricultural Education at DELSU for 3 years sequel to her obtaining Agricultural Economics from UNIBEN.
This she said was further affirmed after her UNIBEN transcript requested by DELSU was sent to the DeltaState University and that one (Revd. Canon) Biodun Oladosu, The Assistant Welfare/ Counseling Officer and University Chaplain wrote a letter dated 24th March 2009 to the Defendant confirming her “as a fit and proper person to undergo her course of study in the 1st Defendant (DELSU) University”.
The Warri North local government born Madamedon Endurance .A. who was obviously distraught told newsmen in Warri weekend that she was shocked on successful completion of her degree programme in DELSU, when the Student Affairs Officer “revealed to her that the column of the Student Affairs Officer would not be signed”, in the clearance form on the excuse that DELSU “does not admit students with Diploma Degree from the University of Benin into her direct entry programme”.

According to her, even when she reminded the DELSU Student Affairs Officer that there was no discrimination/segregation of any kind against the University of Benin the year she was admitted, the Student Affairs Officer “on the instructions of the 1st Defendant (DELSU) refused to sign the clearance form to enable her go for National Youth Service.”
Our Correspondent reports that though no date has been fixed for hearing, Delta State University, Abraka has been served the notice.
