Why Okowa described Dr. Tidi’s first book, 'a strange feat'

Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, on Thursday December 3, described the launch of ‘Resource Dependence, Violent Conflict and Economic Development’, the first book written by Dr. Michael Tidi, Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, as a strange feat: “Because, it is not usually seen in the political cycle”, saying: “Tidi has rewritten the road map of politics”.

Dr. Okowa, who made the declaration at Asaba, Delta State, urged others to emulate the feat attained by Dr. Tidi.

He explained that the book x-rayed the issues of the Niger Delta, by exploring the economic, political and exploration of the resources of the Niger Delta Region, saying there is a need to revisit the revenue sharing formula as it affects the Niger Delta.

Governor Okowa stressed: “We need to continue to tell the story of the Niger Delta Region, by taking the book to all regions of Nigeria". 

Chairman of the occasion, Prof. Sam Oyovbaire, who was represented by Prof. Sam Ukala, described the book as an invaluable gift to people of the Niger Delta and Nigeria at large: “As it deals with important issues relevant at this time, the effects of resources exploitation and under-development of the Niger Delta”.

The book which comprises of ten chapters and 192 pages, was reviewed by Dr. Adetunji Babatunde, Chief Economic Adviser to the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde.

Author of the book and Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Dr. Michael Tidi, expressed appreciation to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as well as all government and private organizations that attended the prestigious book launch.

Dr. Tidi accused the International oil and gas companies of being the major cause of crisis in the Niger Delta, saying the book proffers solution to improving oil and gas producing and impacted communities in the region.

The Warri South Council Boss, reiterated the call for 100 percent revenue of the resources coming out from the Niger Delta, instead of 13 percent given back to the Niger Delta States by the federal government.

He urged President Buhari to immediately constitute the Board of Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC.
