Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, has just commissioned 187 Solar Direct Drive Cold Chain Equipment to facilitate uninterrupted availability and distribution of vaccines, including COVID-19 vaccine, in their optimal storage temperature and quality.

In his New Year Day address, Governor Fayemi, had promised to install Solar-powered refrigerators for vaccine storage in 177 Primary Healthcare Centers (1 per Ward). The total number of refrigerators expected is 231, while 187 have been received, the remaining 44 are reportedly underway.

Fresh Angle International understands that as a result of the commissioning, Ekiti people will have better access to life-saving vaccines, to safeguard them against avoidable death, due to infectious diseases. This was made possible through collaborative and counterpart funding of Ekiti State Government and the Federal Government.

The Cold Chain equipment that was commissioned today, means coordinated events in temperature-controlled environments to store, manage and transport the lifesaving products, otherwise known as vaccines, which must be continuously stored in a limited temperature range from the time they are manufactured, until the moment of vaccination.

This will also enhance the State’s immunization activities towards curbing preventable deaths and attainment of health for all.

The idea of immunization is to ensure that no child less than five years or pregnant woman is left out of vaccination processes in the efforts to improve the neonatal, infant and maternal health indices.
