Thousands of dwellers plying the busy Jeddo – Ughoton –Ugbokodo – Omadino – Obodo Road, experienced heavy gridlock this morning, Friday February 5, as Delta State Government commenced work on the “expansion” of Jeddo Road in Okpe Local Government Area in Delta State.
Findings by Fresh Angle International indicated that residents of the Okpe and Warri adjourning communities that left their homes before 7am for their socio-economic activities, escaped the traffic jam, while those that passed through the route from 7.30am suffered untold hardship and delay as tippers offloading sand for the road expansion project at Jeddo Bridge axis, literally blocked entry and exit to the aforesaid densely populated communities for hours, without any prior notice that work was about to begin for the expansion of the road.
A Police Patrol vehicle coming from Jeddo, which ran into the gridlock, maneuvered and managed to exit the hold-up without efforts to clear the situation, while many residents of the five communities headed for work and other socio-economic business activities in Warri, Effurun and environs, had to trek from Jeddo to the NPA-Expressway by Ekpan Junction in Uvwie Local Government Area, to enable them pursue their activities for the day.
This Newspaper can report that the intended expansion of the road has been greeted with mixed feelings, as most residents of the area and visitors alike prefer dualization of the Jeddo-Omadino Road, which leads to sprawling river-locked communities such as Oteghele, Ukpokiti, Uwakeno and Orere-Uluba.
