Groups threaten showdown over composition of controversial PDP ward executives

Two PDP pressure groups in Okere Urhobo, Warri South local government have threatened to embark on mass protest if the controversial executive of Okumagba I ward 11and Okumagba II ward 12 allegedly selected by a particular family (name withheld) is not disregarded.

In a joint statement made available to newsmen, the aggrieved PDP faithful declared that the demonstration which it staged Saturday March 10 at the party secretariat in Warri could be the beginning of a series of protests if the party hierarchy does not correct the lopsided composition of the two ward executives.

They are particularly miffed by the controversial composition which allotted 8 out of the 17 member ward executive of Okumagba II ward 12 to a particular family which does not reflect the majority of PDP members in the ward.

The statement signed by Secretary of Okere Urhobo Grassroots Political Forum,Sylvester Eburu and President of Concerned PDP Loyalists of Okumagba II ward12, Nelson Oghwor, alleged that majority of the people that were on the congress list are not members of the PDP and do not reside in Okumagba 1 ward11 and Okumagba II ward 12.

The aggrieved members blame the failure of the PDP to win elections in Okumagba II ward 12 in the last 8 years on the undemocratic process the ward executive were nominated based on family sentiment.

The group appealed to the state governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, Dr. Joseph Otumara, Honourable commissioner for health and the Warri South PDP Chairman to urgently look into the matter to save the party in the area from further woes and avoidable catastrophe.

It was reliably gathered that fallout of the recent ward congress in the area has led to parallel ward executive in Okumagba 1 ward 11 and Okumagba II ward 12.
