Group cries for help, recounts kidnap of couples, five others in Kogi West

A group under the auspice of Okun Development Association, ODA, has cried for help over the recent upsurge of kidnapping in the Western Senatorial District of Kogi State.

Our Kogi State Correspondent reports that the call followed the recent increase in abduction of some indigenes in Mopa/Amuro, and Kabba-Bunu Local Government Areas of the State.

The group which is a Sociocultural Development Association of the Yoruba speaking part of Kogi State, recounted how black hooded ISWAP attacked a couple driving in their car along Okeagi-Imela ( between Mopamuro and Yagba east LGA), shooting at their car and leave them dead.

In a statement issued to newsmen Thursday July 15 by ODA General Secretary, Chief Ben Ayo Abereoran, noted that Okun Nation has been under siege of these criminals since 8th of July 2021.

Abereoran explained further that a farmer who was trying to help the couples was mercilessly beaten to stupor after several gun shots couldn’t penetrate his body

According to the statement “On Saturday 10, 2021, unknown gunmen kidnapped four persons, a man and three women in Mopamuro LGA. As if that is not enough their gang kidnapped an easy going owner of Lifted Pharmacy on 13th 2021 in Kabba. Only God knows who is next.”

The statement however called for improved security in the area towards nipping the recent upsurge of kidnapping in Okun land.

It further urged security agencies to rise up to their responsibility of protecting lives and property of the people.

Meanwhile, the State Security Adviser, retired Commodore Jerry Omodara, who confirmed the development said the government is aware of the resurgence of kidnapping and other criminal acts in the area but vowed that the current administration is working round the clock to arrest perpetrators in the next one week.
