Enforcers of the Delta State Passengers’ Welfare Scheme, have declared that any transporter or driver operating commercial transportation within Delta State that default in the state passengers’ scheme, will be arraigned in the mobile court set up for the purpose of enforcement.

Our Senior Correspondent reports that the warning was handed down Wednesday August 18 at Effurun near Warri, by Consultant to Delta State Government on Passengers’ Welfare Scheme, Engr. Egogo Lawrence, during the team’s enforcement exercise in Delta Central Senatorial District.

Engr. Lawrence, who is also the MD of Calf-Time Global Concept Ltd., explained that the Delta State Passengers’ Welfare Scheme, was established to compensate would-be accident victims (passengers) within and outside the state.

He posited that vehicle owners who do not carry passengers at the recognized motor parks in the state, are responsible for fueling kidnap cases in the state, “because their boarding are not manifested”.

According to him, with the passengers’ scheme in place, everybody entering any commercial vehicle, will be manifested for proper data, so as to curb the spate of kidnapping and other activities by miscreants.

Engr. Lawrence, encouraged residents and drivers to embrace the scheme, saying the law empowering the scheme was enacted in 2002.

He assured everyone with claims will be duly paid and medical attention given, promising that they won't infringe on anyone's right.

The Magistrate In-charge of the Mobile Court established for the enforcement in Delta Central, Gregory Epete, Esq. was on ground to dispense justice, while the Delta State Prosecutor from the Ministry of Justice, Peter Daubry Esq. stated that inline with section 10 of the Delta State Passengers’ Welfare Scheme Law, anybody that violates any provision, will be sentenced to prison for a period not less than 6 months or option of 20 thousand Naira fine or both.

The State Prosecutor, urged Deltans and people travelling through motor parks to comply as there is benefit in obeying the law.

Fresh Angle International can report that some commercial vehicles were impounded, during the enforcement exercise.
