National President of National Association of Itsekiri Students, NAIS, Comrade Augustine Leleji has lauded the efforts of Hon. Alero Ogbemi Barlow in reawakening the educational consciousness of the Itsekiri people.
Comrade Augustine Leleji gave this accolade during a seminar on Sensitization and prevention of teenage pregnancy, HIV/AIDS and Ebola Virus Diseases organized by the office of Miss NAIS in conjunction with AleroBarlow2015CampaignOrganization tagged: Good health for the betterment of Itsekiri Nations held at the Ugbuwangwe Town-hall, Ugbuwangwe on October, 17.
Comrade Leleji disclosed that the accolade became necessary because of the aspirant’s effort at positioning the Itsekiri indigenes. He said, “it is only pertinent and of paramount important that Itsekiri students recognize your effort in positioning Itsekiri indigenes”.
Furthermore, he explained that the seminar was an initiative of Miss NAIS who in a bid to consolidate on the achievements of her predecessors, came up with the health programme to tackle issues of teenage pregnancy, HIV/AIDS and Ebola Virus Diseases, discussed the idea with the aspirant who accepted to finance the project through her campaign organization and awarded scholarship to 6 undergraduates. According to him, “the crowning of Miss NAIS is one of the biggest events in the life of this association and since she was crowned she has been struggling to consolidate on the achievements of her predecessors and today the fruit is about to be unveil which include the health programme and the 6 scholarship for undergraduates that is financed by Alero2015 Campaign Organization”.
Reacting, Hon. Alero Ogbemi Barlow said she was happy to be among young people who wished to serve and identify with the needs of the society as well as office holders who use their office constructively to impact positively on the lives of people. In her words, “I am happy to be in the presence of the leaders of tomorrow. It is a great honour to be with young people who understand that community must come first. Young people who wish to serve, have identified the needs of the community and wish to use the office they have been voted into constructively, who looks forward to tomorrow and what they can give back to the society”.
She said that her expectation at the end of the seminar is to have impacted on the lives of the teenagers. According to her, “we hope that at the end of today we would have impacted positively on their lives. If it is three young girls that would walk out of here and say I would not give up my future, forsake my economic empowerment, psychological balance, morality, religion and I will not go into childhood/teenage pregnancy then we would have achieved something”.
In the same vein, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Chairman of Warri South, Mr. Ama Agbajoh while identify with the students said he was once a student and was pleased to be part of the organization, encouraged the participants at the seminar to know what it takes for teenage pregnancy to occur, HIV/AIDS and the latest Ebola.
Meanwhile, the Director General of Alero2015Campaign, Prince David Aboyowa Omaghomi has lamented the deteriorating state of communication structure in the society has led to teenage pregnancy, HIV/AIDS hence the seminar. He advised Itsekiris and Deltans to take issues pertaining personal hygiene and health important. Prince David Omaghomi who was represented by his Senior Special Adviser, Engr. Odonghanro Besidone Bawo, said “if you look at our society today, coming down to Warri as a kingdom, you will see that there are many deterioration in terms of the communication structure. And they are not aware of the health implication of some actions and inaction that they may take that will lead to becoming pregnant as a teenager or that may lead them to becoming infected with HIV or the deadly Ebola Virus that is trending now. It is timely now to make it our point of duty to bring both young, aged and the teens to be educated more on these issues and that is what we have done now”.
“Also I’m calling on all Itsekiris and Deltans to take issues of their personal hygiene very important, health issues and issues that ravage the society of the present day, talking about Ebola, HIV and teenage pregnancy and they should do as much as they can to minimize it to the barest minimum. Also I want to call on all NAIS to support the quest to build a better Ewere nation so that in the end we all will be happy.
Meanwhile, Miss NAIS, Blessing Tuoyo, who spoke exclusively with Fresh Angle pertaining how she came up with the initiative for the seminar was as a result of the events happening in her home town to girls her age being pregnant and nothing been done about it so she decide to use her office to sensitize the teenagers. In her words, “in my hometown, when I look around I see girls my age and the ones that are not up to my age getting pregnant and nobody is doing anything about it, so God giving me the opportunity of being a Miss NAIS, I decided that with the office given to me I will try and do something about it”.
She confided that the turnout at the seminar was beyond her expectation and encouraged NAIS members to render selfless service in everything they do and focus on God. She opined “the turnout was indeed beyond my expectation. I want to advise them to render selfless service. Everything we are doing should come from our heart because if it is not from your heart it won’t work and let’s focus on God and with prayers all things will be well”.

Among the resource persons at the seminar, the 1st Asst. Secretary of National Council of Women Society, Mrs. Patience Ataine who gave a lecture on teenage pregnancy charged the teens to live life worthy of emulation, have good role models, zip up to have a better future, make a change so that the vision to promote women in government by 35% can be filled by them.
The other resource persons are in the medical field, Nurse Joy Omotegbona also gave a lecture on teenage pregnancy while Nurse Orevaoghene Ababor gave a lecture on HIV/AIDS and Nurse Chinedu Odigili lectured on Ebola Virus Diseases. Also in attendance were, Miss NAIS Ogwushi-ukwu chapter, Precious Esiko, Miss NAIS Delsu chapter, Tosan Omawunmi, Miss NAIS College Of Education Warri, COEWA chapter, Anet Oleju and Miss NAIS Delta State Polytechnic Otefe chapter, Sonia Kaye Okpaghoro.
