The Senator representing Delta North at the National Assembly, and Chairman Senate Committee on Health, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, has called on Nigerians not to discriminate against physically challenged persons but rather, they should see them as productive parts of the society.
Senator Okowa made the call on Nigeria's independence anniversary day while celebrating with members of the Physically Challenged Persons Association, Ika Chapter at Agbor, headquarters of Ika South Local Government Area of Delta state.
He said the society must continue to identify and support those who are physically challenged as a way of encouraging them to be useful to themselves and the society, stressing that the time when physically impaired persons were discriminated against was over.
The lawmaker who made a donation of twenty wheel chairs to members of the association, urged parents of such children to ensure they took good care of them and nurture in the fear and love of God, maintaining that, " such children when properly taken care of grow up to be successful and productive part of the society. They should therefore, be sent to school to get good education so they could contribute meaning fully to the growth and development of our society."
He urged members of the society, including government at all levels, to ensure the interest and we'll being of these persons are protected and advanced at all times, as according to him, "they are our brothers and sisters and therefore, deserved our support and care."
