DTHA 2015: Pius Labo in the eyes of the electorate

In all true democracies, elections are conducted from time to time to give room for the citizens through the ballot system to either choose new leaders to replace perceived non performing representatives, or renew the mandate of those adjudged to have done well.

As the 2015 general elections draw close, the polity is agog with electioneering. The bout of endorsements of choice candidate(s) from the number one office in country to other elective positions is not a surprise.

Recently, the political atmosphere in Bomadi Local Government Area has since been greeted with applauds and high expectations when various political support groups in the area endorsed and threw their weight behind Prince Pius Labo , calling on him to contest the state House of Assembly seat under the platform of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The wind of endorsement and support for Prince Labo to vie for the position brought him into the eyes of the electorate. To those who know his force as a grassroots mobilizer and who has been tested in different capacities of public responsibility he did not fail the people. Rather, he demonstrated leadership qualities that endeared him into the hearts and minds of the people.

While his endorsement and the outpouring supports from notable politicians across the LGA reflect the character of the electioneering season; it may well express the consciousness and confidence of the electorate in the political process and demand for good governance, which the people have implicit confidence in Labo to deliver.

Pius Labo whose name since it popped up in the scene has caused an uneasy calm amongst those whom some writers have preferred to refer to in the political circle as the hard core and uncompromising optimists’ political class in the LGA. Though, Pius Labo who many have described as a game changer is mum in spite of coming under pressure to contest the state House of Assembly position. Yet, the LGA gathers momentum and awaits his eventual declaration; his support base keeps growing as the shakers and movers of the area queue behind the PDP stalwart.

Between Pius Labo and his public circle is his philosophy of life, an ideology rooted in socio-spiritual underpinnings to live a life that impact humanity for the name of God to be glorified. His private and active public lives inspired his philosophy in life that brought him in touch with the pause of the people. This has no doubt connects him well with the public. Perhaps too, this explains why there is so much ecstasy renting the political atmosphere when a cross section of groups in the area endorsed him as credible and having the qualities to attract more development to the constituency.

Served as secretary to Bomadi local government council, Pius Labo is the current chapter chairman of PDP in Bomadi LGA. He is also a board member, Delta Development and Property Authority DDPA in the state.

While there exists a subtle but intense battle for the soul of House of Assembly seat, there seem to be a consensus on the near absence of development and gross under-representation of the constituency, which calls for a right candidate with the zeal to attract positive development to the generality at the grassroots.  No doubt, the coming days will unfold the gimmicks and intrigues of political gladiators in the LGA.
