Itsekiri rights’ activist and Igba of Warri Kingdom, Chief Rita Lori-Ogbebor has canvassed support for Agricultural revolution particularly in Warri and Delta State in general.
Chief Rita Lori Ogbebor, an hotelier spoke to newsmen while conducting some Directors sent by the Hon. Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Akinwunmi Ayo Adesina to access her farms at Ajigba, a riverine community in Warri South Local Government Area.
She decried the level of decay and neglect of Agriculture and appealed to the Federal, State and Local governments to urgently invest positively in the agricultural sector in order to develop the youths and avoid social vices amongst them.
She appealed to the Federal Government to provide rice processing mill in her farm to enable her process rice harvested from her farm.
The Warri Chief disclosed that 50 fish farmers from her farm would soon be given fishing tools by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture as a result of her meeting with the Hon. Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Akinwunmi Ayo Adesina
The Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina in a message promised that the Federal Government will support rural farmers in Delta State, adding that government does not collect money for the distribution of Agricultural inputs.
The Minister, who was represented by the leader of the team, Mr. Ikhadeunu.A. Andrew told the people of Ajigba Community that Rita Lori Ogbebor have the people at heart.
Mr. Andrew who is also the Chief Agricultural Officer, Rice Value Chain under the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, advised the farmers at Ajigba to form a corporative society so that they can access federal government loan. He promised to provide tractor centre if the community operates under peaceful atmosphere.
Another official from the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. Aderiye Adefemi stated that in other countries in America and Europe farmers are the richest people, noting that farmers in Nigeria can also be the richest if only the youths and the people generally go back to agriculture.
A youth leader from Ugboedede Community, who also spoke to the delegation, Jemi Ejegi appealed to the Delta State and the Warri South Local Governments to come back and revamp the abandoned farm owned by Warri South Local Government Area, which was operated in the 1970s.
On his part, an elderly man in the community, Mr. Iwetan-Okotie Alfred decried the lack of basic infrastructures like schools and health centres in Ajigba, Inorin and Usele communities.
