Sanitation: 67 people arraigned as Warri South Council intensifies  enforcement of restriction order

67 sanitation defaulters were on Saturday February 28, arraigned by the reinvigorated Warri South Local Government Council Environmental Sanitation Mobile Court, presided over by Magistrate Tunde Smooth (Mrs.) of Magistrate Court 5, Warri, for flouting the 7:00am to 10:00 am restriction of movement order, announced by the Delta State Government.

 

The Mobile Court, which sat at the Warri South Council Main Secretariat in Warri, convicted 50 of the 67 sanitation offenders and penalized them with various fines, depending on the magnitude of their offences, while some of them were made to immediately carryout community service.

The Supervisor for Environment, Warri South Local Government Council, Mr. Omawumi Elete, who coordinated the environmental sanitation exercise on behalf of the Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Dr. Michael Tidi, commended staffers of the council's environment department led by the HOD, Mrs. Stella Mode, members of Warri South Council Taskforce on Beautification headed by Mr. Kenneth George and members of the State Taskforce on Beautification, saying efforts were ongoing to bring Warri up - to - speed with other clean and environmentally friendly cities in Nigeria.

Payloader and tippers, mobilized by the Council, cleared debris and overgrown weeds at a long stretch of Shell Contractors Road, Ugbuwangue Market, Edjeba and other strategic areas in the Oil City of Warri, even as two filling stations selling petroleum products during the environmental sanitation period, were closed by the Warri South Council Enforcement team.

Mr. Elete, stated that the Dr. Michael Tidi administration, was determined to inculcate a culture of cleanliness amongst people living and visiting Warri South Local Government Area, advising residents of Warri to adhere strictly to the restriction of movement order during environmental sanitation periods.
