The Executive of Okogho community in Delta State has petitioned the management of Conoil, operator of the Obodo Field OPL 2007 over alleged denial and refusal to grant them employment slot and contracts benefits in their on-going project on their land after granting them recognition as host community.
In the petition addressed to the Executive Chairmen of Warri North and South Mr. Mofe Edema and Francis Maku respectively they listed their areas of grievance against the company to include Surveillance of pipelines in the waterways, security of the rig and house boats, employment of different skilled and unskilled labour and Catering slot.
They said the petition has become imperative as their patience is running out with the company and called for urgent intervention before things get out of hand.
The petition states in part: “we therefore ask that our employment, including the arrears and contract on the Tug boat/badges, house boat, cranes, speed boats, supplies of feeding material, diesel/fuel/oil, bathing water on rig and others be given to us now.
The petition is to draw your attention to this injustice being meted out to Okogho community. This is a breach of agreement between both parties and if not urgently address, we will take our destiny into our hands because justice delayed is justice denied”.
The petition was copied to all relevant security agencies and the Inspector-General of Police.
