Recruitment: NAIG vows to resist marginalization of Itsekiri
Oritsegbegbemi Ajagbe

Miffed by perceived marginalization of Itsekiri professionals and graduates in the on-going recruitment of graduates into the Delta State Civil Service Commission, the National Association of Itsekiri Graduates, NAIG under the leadership of Oritsegbegbemi Ajagbe has called on Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan to intervene, describing the process as “act of evil and wickedness”, which has “continued unabated” even under the governor’s administration.

In a statement signed by NAIG President and Secretary, Ajagbe Oritsegbegbemi and Eburajolo Ben Eyitemi respectively, the association recounted how qualified Itsekiris were deprived employment in the Asaba Cargo Airport constructed by the Uduaghan administration, snubbed in the recent recruitment into the Delta State Board of Internal revenue as well as the Petroleum Training Institute and NNPC, where “qualified Itsekiris that got to the final stages were not engaged”.

The statement noted that it is only protesters from other ethnic nationalities that have been given opportunities and appointments in recent recruitments in the state. “Can we now conclude that one must be violent to get what one deserves, because for every of the opportunities wherein we were short-changed, we realized that protesters from other ethnic nationalities were called and given such opportunities and appointment letters”, NAIG posited.

The Itsekiri graduates while stressing their disappointment at the insignificant number of Itsekiris shortlisted for the on-going Delta State Civil Service Commission exercise to the “huge advantage of other ethnic groups in the State”, despite having her own at the helm of affairs, vowed to resist the trend of marginalization of qualified Itsekiris in the State recruitment.

Over 1,000 graduates were recently shortlisted for recruitment into the Delta State Civil Service, with Itsekiris getting less than 60 slots.
