The Delta State Command of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has revealed plans to take the War Against Drug Abuse, WADA campaign to primary and secondary schools across Delta State, saying the Command has trained several teachers on how to set up Drug Free Clubs in their various schools.
Fresh Angle International understands that the Area Commander of Narcotics, ACN Nwaida Harami, reportedly made the revelation on behalf of the NDLEA Boss, Wednesday June 1, during a working visit to Shola Mese Foundation in Warri, Delta State.
He noted that WADA campaign, which was launched last year, will not only be restricted to primary and secondary schools, but will be included in school curriculum.
ACN Nwaida Harami, explained that the campaign was existing prior to COVID-19 pandemic and the teachers had undergone training, but had to be put on hold, until last year when it became imperative to nip criminality associated with drugs in the bud and teach children the need to stay off drugs.
He lamented that most crimes, were committed under the influence of drugs and substance abuse, disclosing that the Command currently has over 30 inmates in its holding cell, who are awaiting trial.
According to him, from his conversations with the inmates, some of them were already repentant and gave various reasons on how they got involved.
He advised youths not to allow themselves to be used by leaders or politicians as political tools or thugs in the forthcoming elections.
ACN Nwaida Harami thanked Dcn. Shola Mese for the renovation work he did at the Deco Road Office of the NDLEA, saying the agency’s female cell foundation, is in dire need of repair.

On the issue of the Drug Free Clubs, Dcn. Mese, commended the initiative, pointing out that he is a patron to Friends Against Drugs Abuse, FADA, one of the drug free clubs in Warri.
He advised that all schools in the state, should have Drug Free Clubs, to help shape the perception of pupils and students about illicit drugs and ultimately help them.
