Tragedy struck at Ugbuwangue in Warri, Delta State at about 4pm on Saturday May 9 when a 20 - year old girl identified simply as Omasan regrettably stabbed her 16-year old sibling, Laju to death following a fight that broke out over who makes use of kitchen stove for cooking, Fresh Angle International can authoritatively report.
The unfortunate incident which left the popular Ugbuwangue family and people of the community in deep pain, started when the 16 - year old boy and only son of his mother demanded to cook with the stove, which appeared not to have enough kerosene. His elder sister, Omasan, who according to credible sources normally showers him with so much love and care, decided to refuse him access to the stove. This led to an argument and in a bid to avoid the quarrel from degenerating, mother of Omasan and Laju (name withheld) gave her son, Laju one hundred naira (N100) to purchase kerosene to enable him carry out his cooking, the mother’s gesture surprisingly didn’t go well with the boy’s sister, she immediately walked to him and took the money, insisting he can’t cook with the stove.
As the quarrel heightened, the 16-year old only son of the mother in a polygamous home, dashed outside and was sighted with a broken bottle seemingly ready for a fight with his elder sister, Omasan. His sister allegedly rushed him and later retracted home to pick their kitchen knife. On her return, she saw her brother, who apparently had given up the fight on the corridor of their house, seating down without the bottle in his hand and the angry sister stabbed him on the chest with the knife which penetrated to the boy’s heart, immediately she realized the damage done, she quickly remove the knife from her beloved brother, yelling for help around the community.
The stabbed boy, who sat down using his head to face the ground helplessly, painfully watched blood pumping out from his chest. Sympathizers from the community as well as family relations who heeded to the 20-year old sister’s regrettable yell and cry for help, came to the rescue in a bid to rush Laju to Warri Central Hospital for prompt medical attention. The boy, who apparently had lost large pint of blood, gave up the ghost at the popular Miller Bridge by NPA Warri Old Port, some meters away from Warri Central Hospital.
Checks by Fresh Angle International reveal that even though the remorseful Omasan was picked up by the Police, the affected family were stepping up preparation as at the time of this report to secure her release, on the premise that the unfortunate incident may have been orchestrated by enemies spiritually and the family can’t afford to lose two of their children in one swoop.
