An On-Field Investigation by Our Managing Editor/Co-Publisher, has raised a possible link in increase in the prices of diesel, kerosene and building materials in parts of Warri South and Okpe Local Government Areas in Delta state, to the clampdown on crude oil thieves and the flood ravaging parts of the oil and gas-rich state.
Recall that NNPC Limited, recently contracted pipeline surveillance contract to some indigenous companies in the Niger Delta.
The Investigation, which was conducted Wednesday October 19, revealed that the price of kerosene is 200% higher compared to what it was before Tantita and Emna Fleets, began execution of the pipeline surveillance contract, as the product (kerosene) was not readily available in filling stations. 1.5lit of kerosene that was sold for N800 before the pipeline surveillance contract was awarded by NNPC Limited, now sells for N1200. One 2 by 2 wood, that was sold for N450 is now N750.
“The prices of building materials, other goods and services are on the increase daily, because diesel is now scarce, as a result of the clampdown on pipeline vandals/crude oil thieves.
“Sand Beaches around Ubeji in Warri South Local Government Area and environ, are now shutdown, due to lack of diesel, because the sand beaches purportedly relied on ‘cooked diesel’ for their operations.
“The flood disaster, has left commuters stranded, negatively affecting the transportation of goods, thus causing a sharp rise in the limited number of goods available in shops”, the Investigation, further revealed.
