Governments at all levels have been charged to provide adequate security and create the enabling environment for investors to thrive and the youths fully engaged with a view to avoiding a repeat of the Niger Delta crisis.
The charge was made by the chairman of Heirs Holdings Lagos, Mr. Tony Elumelu at Asaba during a seminar to mark this year’s Democracy Day.
The seminar which had the theme: Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises as drivers for achieving the goal of Delta beyond oil saw Mr. Elumelu blaming the spate of crime in the state and the nation at large on youth unemployment.
The event which held at Delta Convention Centre (Dome) in Asaba, the state capital had Mr. Elumelu who was also the chairman of the ceremony announcing the establishment of a 1.4million dollars fertilizer plant project in Burutu local government area. He also announced the establishment of Tony Elumelu Foundation Business School in the state.
In his remark, Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan assured the people of Asaba and its neighboring communities of constant power supply. This according to him is based on the premise that the power which is generated in the state should be distributed locally with a view to encouraging entrepreneurship.
Dr. Uduaghan gave the commissioner for Agriculture an ultimatum to complete the establishment of a fish feed mill industry in the state before the end of the year.
He identified infrastructural deficiencies as part of problems militating against micro, small and medium enterprises, even as he noted that there is much the financial institutions can do to encourage small scale businesses.
Chairman of Agriculture and food security commission, Mr. Emmanuel Ijewere said in 5 years, the federal government will stop the importation of rice and other produce. Mr. Ijewere noted that there is need for government and private partnership in this direction and advised strongly that the state government should start making proper utilization of its available lands and stop wasting them.
For his part, one time governorship aspirant in Delta State, Mr. Albert Okumagba said the leadership of the local government councils should set up target to improve agriculture. According to him, this will go a long way in helping the state government achieve its aim of Delta State Beyond Oil.
