Over 1,000 contractors doing business with Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC under the aegis of DESOPADEC Indigenous Contractors’ Forum are gearing up for imminent showdown and have given the Delta State government as well as DESOPADEC 14 working days with effects from Thursday February 25 to pay them N8 billion for jobs already executed or face massive protests across the State.
In a communiqué issued after a crucial meeting held in Warri, Thursday February 25, the DESOPADEC Contractors Forum warned the commission not to kill “DESOPADEC with the proposed 2016 budget by way of reduction of budgetary provision”, and enjoined the interventionist agency to pay “all outstanding certificates”.
The communiqué signed by Francis Obule, Toritseju Sunny Mabiaku and Ebigbagha Charles, Chairman, Secretary and Public Relations Officer of DESOPADEC Indigenous Contractors’ Forum respectively, asked DESOPADEC to stop percentage payment for jobs executed and “pay contractors in full”.
While blaming DESOPADEC for the abandonment of projects, the contractors expressed strong reservation against the outcome of the meeting its executive had with DESOPADEC MD, Olorugun Williams Makinde on February 18, 2016 regarding their plight and enjoined the commission not to embark on any new project until their monies are paid in full.
