In what can be described as a direct response to speculations making the round that they might be politically witch-hunting the immediate past Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei, the Delta State House of Assembly has refuted the allegation, insisting it was only carrying out oversight function on the Independent Power Project (IPP), Oghara, Delta State.
The denial by the State House of Assembly may not be unconnected with strong speculations that the immediate past Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei whose company executed major contracts in the IPP, Oghara may have perfected arrangements to formerly defect to the All Progressives Congress, APC from the ruling PDP.
Hon. Ochei is already believed to be working with APC Chieftains such as Chief Ayirimi Emami and Olorogun Jaro Egbo, the Labour Party Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Obarisi Ovie Omo-Agege as well as Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru with a view to creating a formidable opposition ahead of the 2019 general elections.
However, in a statement issued in Asaba by the House Leader, Hon. Tim Owhefere, the State House of Assembly stressed that its inquest on the IPP is based on strict reliance on the Rule of Law and most importantly the Right to Fair Hearing.
According to the statement, what the House did was merely an oversight function in line with constitutional provision.
“It was never intended as a probe initiative against any individual” Owhefere who doubles as the Chairman, House Committee on Information said.
The statement went further to reaffirm the commitment and resolve of the House to be fair and just in all matters of concern to Deltans.
