As part of efforts to reduce the burden of the declining monthly federal allocation, Chairman of Udu Local Government Area, Chief Solomon Kpomah says his administration will partner members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW in the area to collect revenue from motorists, noting that officials of the council will be assigned to assist in the task.
The move became imperative following six-month salary arrears owed staffers of the council due to the monthly federal allocation shortfall.
Chief Kpomah who made the disclosure Tuesday March 29 at Udu Council Secretariat in Otor-Udu in an exclusive chat with Our Correspondent, revealed that the council executive has concluded arrangement to introduce a traders’ scheme, which will see traders in the council area paying N50 daily to Revenue Marshalls.
According to the Udu Council Boss, consultants would soon be engaged by the local government with a view to brainstorming on ways of improving internally generated revenue in the council, so as to clear the staff salary backlog.
He commended staffers of the council for their patience despite the untold hardship occasioned by the non-payment of salary, noting that his administration is about to introduce biometric attendance register for the council workers to clock in and sign out to check truancy by workers.
