WSLGC Legislative Leadership Change: Revert to Okere-Urhobo, Otumara insists

Leader of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Warri South Local Government Area and immediate past Delta State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Sisanmi Otumara has waded into the legislative leadership crisis in Warri South Local Government Council, insisting the position of Leader of the House was zoned to Okere-Urhobo people in Warri by the PDP and the status quo must be maintained.

Dr. Otumara, who is currently a Special Adviser to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa made the declaration on Sunday April 10 in Warri during a 3-hour close door meeting with selected political gladiators following the purported impeachment of second-term Leader and Deputy Leader of the Legislative Arm, Hon. Sunday Aguweye and Hon. Richard Pessu respectively by 13 of the 19 Councilors that make up the House.

A source at the meeting told Fresh Angle International that the PDP Chieftain stated that in as much as he won’t dabble into the internal affairs of the Warri South Legislative Arm, he stands by the party decision of zoning the House Leadership position to Okere-Urhobo and as such gave PDP leaders in Okere-Urhobo one month to come up with an acceptable candidate of their choice for the position.

The recent impeachment of Hon. Sunday Aguweye of Okere-Urhobo as the Leader and his replacement with Hon. Marcus Udoyo of Edjeba ward, Agbarha-Warri has not gone down well with PDP leaders in Okere-Urhobo and prominent leaders of the area such as Chief Emmanuel Okumagba as well as Mr. Matthew Poko Opuoru, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa on Political Affairs have expressed their anger on the development.

Meanwhile, indications also emerged that Dr. Otumara was silent on the position of Deputy Leader now occupied by Hon. Matthew Dada of Omadino/Obodo ward, after Hon. Richard Pessu was impeached alongside Hon. Aguweye.
