CPFSP Workers, demand 200HP Engine in their patrol boat, communication gadgets, salary increment

Community Pipeline Facility Surveillance Programme Workers, CPFSPW, have demanded for the installation of 200 Horse Powered Engine in their patrol boats, increase in fuel, provision of radio communication gadgets and salary increment, to enhance effective patrol and boost their morals.

The Community Pipeline Facility Surveillance Programme Workers, are also calling for increase in manpower, good search light, safety gadgets as well as medicals and feeding of their members onboard.

According to CPFSPW, their members started the job since the year 2006 with N41,000.00 (Forty-one thousand Naira) as monthly salary and work more than 15hours a day, without feeding and medical, adding that in 2010, the Itsekiri Regional Development Committee, IRDC and Chevron Nigeria Limited, CNL increased their monthly payment to one hundred and one thousand naira.

Representative of Dibi Field, Raymond Aderojor and representative of Ugborodo Field, Ebibade Owan, who spoke exclusively to Our Principal Correspondent in Sapele, Delta State, Tuesday August 8, claimed that their salary ought to be reviewed every two years in-line with the contract terms, but they were kept in the dark.

Representatives of other Chevron Nigeria Limited fields in Itsekiri host communities; Patrick Awanebi and Wilson Eboh, said they are being paid N9,500 per day, N16, 000 per day for Skill 1 workers and N21,000 daily for Skill 2 workers.

They urged Chevron Nigeria Limited, CNL, to look into the alleged discrepancies in the salaries and entitlements due to Community Pipeline Facility Surveillance Programme Workers, saying:
“Despite having better and super experience than the other workers that learnt the job from us, the new employees earn more than us, because IRDC/CNL are allowing the
discrepancies.”

Fresh Angle International, understands that CPFSPW, comprising of Itsekiri, Ijaw and Ilaje indigenes, had reportedly written a follow-up letter, dated 20th July, 2023 to Chevron Nigeria Limited.

The letter titled, "Final Stand after 60 days of No response, to Our Appeal for Promotion to Permanent Staff”, which gave CNL 3 weeks ultimatum to attend to their demands, was sequel to an appeal letter dated May 15, 2023.

The said letter, reportedly copied the Itsekiri Regional Development Committee, IRDC, Chairmen of the other two RDCs (Ijaw and Ilaje) The Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, DSS Koko, Warri Area Commander of Nigerian Police, PGPA Chevron Nigeria Limited, Warri, the Security Coordinator, Abiteye, JTF Commander in Koko and the JTF Commander, Abiteye.

They alleged that during COVID-19, CNL paid salary arrears to community workers in all its swamp fields, without giving them anything.

They appealed to the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, to wade into the matter between them and Chevron Nigeria Limited, “for our betterment and the company.”

As at the time of this report, Officials of Chevron Nigeria Limited, who were contacted for the company’s response, were yet to react to our inquest.
