Nigeria lacks policy on transport, expert declares

A University Don and Marine Transport Expert, Dr. Obed Ndikom has declared that Nigeria lacks policy direction on transport and in the Maritime sector.

Dr. Ndikom made the declaration during the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, CILT Mandatory Professional Development Programme, MPDP held at Effurun, Delta State.

According to him, transport industry all over the world are left in the hands of the private sector and not run by government.

The Maritime Transport Expert and Senior Lecturer, Federal University of Technology, FUTO, Owerri while delivering a lecture titled, “The Genesis of Nigeria National Transport Policy”, stated that the Nigerian Transport Industry has continued to suffer in-adequate funding from both past and present governments”.

Dr. Ndikom opined that it’s only FUTO that is running Transport degree in Nigeria and called for more trained professionals to come into the Transport Sector.

In his lecture, The Commander 61 Nigeria Airforce Detachment Warri, 61 NAF, Air Commodore Sani Zakari said that the future of Nigeria Airforce is brilliant, noting that Air Transportation is the fastest and most secured way of delivering goods as well as services.

Air Commodore Zakari quipped that the Nigeria Airforce is not only saddled with the responsibility of aerial defense of the country’s sovereignty, but are also involved in humanitarian gesture operations.

The Airforce boss advised members of CILT to carry out their duties in the most professional way in order to be relied upon at all times.

The Delta State Branch Chairman of CILT, Mr. Felix Nakpodia noted that the Delta State Branch hosted the event for the first time since its inception dating back to 1985 when it was known as Edo/Delta.

He lauded the Zonal Vice President of South-South and South-East, Dr. Bob Ekwuribe and the National Executive Director, Mr. Paul Ndibe for their support as well as the entire members for their cooperation and assistance.
