The Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT has canvassed for improved welfare of teachers, noting that it is a sure way of increasing the standard of education, reducing poverty and ultimately curbing insecurity in the country.
The Warri South NUT Chairman, Comrade Ishmael Ikuejewa who made the assertion in an exclusive chat with Fresh Angle International in Warri during the union’s one year anniversary/thanksgiving, tasked government at all levels to work towards adequate provision of teaching as well as learning materials.
He appealed to the Delta State Government to clear the three months salary arrears owed primary school teachers in Warri South Local Government Area as well as the June and July salaries of secondary school staff.
According to him, primary school teachers in Warri South Local Government Area are not interested in the laptops the State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB imposed on the teachers, urging the board to immediately stop deductions from the teachers’ salary for the purpose of servicing the unsolicited laptops.
