IDU Youth wing empowers over 50 youths, holds maiden economic summit

The Isoko Development Union, IDU, Youth Wing world-wide, has empowered over 50 youths with starter-packs, after the youths successfully completed three-month training in Aquaculture, Fashion/design and Hair dressing.

 

Our Principal Correspondent, reports that this much was the crux of the maiden Isoko Development Union Youth Wing Economic Summit, held Tuesday December 26 at the IDU Secretariat in Oleh, Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State.

 

Global President of Isoko Development Union Youth Wing, Mzee Iraroraina Fidelis Obokpaino, in his welcome address, charged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the items, in order to encourage the donors to do more.

 

While commending distinguished Isoko sons and daughters for their selfless efforts in attracting development to the Isoko land, Obokpaino, disclosed that they have set-up a 10-year development plan for Isoko Nation.

 

President-General of IDU, Prof. Chris Akpotu and IDU Youth Wing President, Obokpaino, declared that Isoko Nation will soon have 24hours power supply, via a competitive independent power company attracted to Isoko land.

 

They appealed to host communities of oil and gas companies in Isoko land to invest reasonable sum of the three percent proceeds from their Petroleum Industry Act, PIA into the Special Purpose Vehicle Project Committee, among other infrastructure uplift in the area.

 

Prof. Chris Akpotu cited Uzere, as a good example of effective use of gas for IPP in Delta state in particular and Nigeria as a whole.

He noted that the theme of the first IDU Youth Wing Economic Summit; "Energy, The Pathway to Societal Development", was result of a wide consultation with experts in the energy sector, urging Isoko people to get ready to pay for power, in order to attract investors in the energy sector to Isoko land.

 

The Senator representing Delta South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Joel Onowakpor and the Member representing Isoko Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Jonathan Ukodhiko, described the IDU leadership at the elders and youth level as the best in running the affairs of Isoko Union.

 

The federal lawmakers, charged Isoko Youths to take their affairs seriously and put Isoko first before party interest.

 

Fresh Angle International can report that other discussants at the summit reaffirmed their support for advancement of Isoko Nation and called on Isoko youth to embrace entrepreneurial skills and shun idleness.

One of the guest speakers, Chief Enahoro Eta, expressed dismay over how former Delta State governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa allegedly created problem in Delta State, “by appointing youths to be collecting free money, without productivity.”

 

Highpoints of the event were the honouring of deserving Isoko sons and daughters, including Senator Joel Onowakpor, Hon. Ukodhiko, as well as the award of 600 thousand to two Isoko son and daughter, that bagged First Class Honour in their academic disciplines.
