SFC, a prestigious, family oriented All Star Football club based in Warri, Delta state, has identified the strategic plan, to rebrand, rebuild and reinvigorate all football teams in the state, both male and female, as core reason why Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, should appoint one of its key members, Onoriode Joshua Oborevwori, as the next Chairman of Delta State Sports Commission.

According to SFC Warri, the Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area-born, Onoriode Joshua Oborevwori, known for his philanthropy and integrity, “is a perfect fit for the job, based on his capacity, leadership qualities and exposure to sports in general.”

SFC Warri, in a statement released Monday March 25, noted in parts: “Onos, as he is popularly known to friends and associates, is a man of integrity, a community leader, a footballer, a hotelier, a mass mobilizer, a Rotarian and a lover of sports in general.

We support him, because he is a perfect fit for the job, based on his capacity, leadership qualities and exposure to sports in general.

“We are confident that Onos will deliver on the job if appointed Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission. He has a well-structured plan for the overall development of Sports in state. He will build on the enviable achievements of his predecessor, Mr. Tonobok Okowa, who led Delta State to victory at the National Sports Festival on three different occasions at Abuja 2018, Edo 2020 and Asaba 2022.

“We note that Team Delta has also won the National Youth Games a record seven (7) times. Onos Oborevwori will build on these legacies and sustain the winning momentum of the gifted athletes of Delta State. Under Onos' leadership, Delta State will become a household name again in youth Sports. The rebranding will start with School Sports at all levels for male and female teams (e.g. Headmaster's Cup, Inter Local Government Area Sports Festivals etc.) to discover young talents from all nooks and crannies of the state.

“A key aspect of Onos' plans is to rebrand, rebuild and reinvigorate all football teams in the state, both male and female. There will be structured programmes for the resurrection of youth football at different age grades: U13, U15, U 17, U19, U21. These teams will feed the state male and female senior teams as well as export talents to the rest of Nigeria and the world.

“Moreso, the development in sports will cover youth sports development in swimming, hand ball, volleyball, basketball, indoor sports like squash, badminton and board games which Delta State have comparative advantage.

“The Delta State flagship football team, Warri Wolves FC, an erstwhile household name, is today plying its trade in the lower cadres of the Nigerian Professional Football League. With Onos as Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission, it is envisaged that players will leave their clubs in droves to play for Warri Wolves FC and the team will return to the Premiership, where they rightly belong.

“Onos' philanthropy and generous nature is clearly illustrated by how over the years, he has routinely accommodated male and female football players and teams at his hotel, providing financial support, housing, feeding and logistics.

“A key pivot of His Excellency Chief Sheriff Oborevwori's MORE Agenda is Meaningful Development and this forms the core of Onos' agenda to transform sports in Delta State, by focusing relentlessly on the development of sporting talent. In-fact, consultations are already in progress with relevant stakeholders in Sports Administration to move Delta state sports to greater heights.

“We urge the Delta State Governor, His Excellency, Chief Sheriff Francis .O. Oborevwori, to appoint our own Mr. Onoriode Joshua Oborevwori  as the next chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission for MORE success on our tracks and fields.”
