Over three years after his shocking demise, unsung Itsekiri patriot, Mr. Julius Erieye Otiri, will be honoured on Thursday April 18, by the National Commission For Museums And Monuments, Abuja, for his contribution towards the listing of the Warri Kingdom Royal Cemetery, Ijala as a State and National Heritage Site.

This much was scooped by Fresh Angle International from a letter addressed to Mr. Jolomi Otiri, the son of Mr. Julius Otiri by the Commission.

 

 

 

 

 

The letter dated April 3 and signed by the Curator, Nanna Living History Museum, Koko, Comrade Ehi Omonkhua, FCAI, averred: “We write to inform you that your beloved father – Late Mr. Julius Otiri, Member, Itsekiri Leaders of Thought (ILoT) have been nominated to receive an Award of Meaningful Contributions on the listing of the Warri Kingdom Royal Cemetery, Ijala as a State and National Heritage Site.

“The Living and Posthumous Awards ceremony shall be held alongside the erection of the Cemetery's new signage as stated hereunder:

Date: 18th April, 2024

Venue: Warri Kingdom Royal Cemetery, 1480 A. D. Road, Ijala

Time: 10am prompt

“Please note that a total of 32 Trees shall be planted. 1 per Awardee and a Prosperity Tree each for the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Delta State, NCMM and Warri Kingdom.

“Choice/ Fruit trees shall also be planted at the Warri Kingdom Royal Orchard. Please accept my warmest congratulations.”

The late Mr. Julius Otiri (Same mother with the Editor-In-Chief of Fresh Angle International, Ebule Anthony Metsese) who was laid to rest Friday December 4, 2020 at the age of 65, piloted the last National Population Census Project for Itsekiri Nation and was doing same ahead of the forthcoming National Population Census, when he painfully exited this mundane world.
