The National Association of Itsekiri Graduates, NAIG has accused Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa of diverting the 13% derivation fund accruing to oil producing communities in the State, vowing that it “will not allow our 13% derivation fund for 2016 go unaccounted for”.

In a statement made exclusively to Fresh Angle International Wednesday January 11, NAIG declared that it will make sure that the 2017 derivation is judiciously disbursed every month as at when due.

Comrade Collins Ortsetimeyin Edema

The statement which was issued by National President of NAIG, Comrade Collins Ortsetimeyin Edema averred, “we frown at a situation where 13% derivation funds meant for the development of oil producing communities is now being utilized by Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa as if it’s his kitchen budget. The governor is running DESOPADEC like his kitchen”. Adding, “we wish to remind him that his kitchen is not in Warri, but in Ika and Ika does not produce a litre of crude oil, neither does it produce a cubic of gas”.

The Itsekiri graduates’ body further alleged, “we are aware that the Delta State Governor has decided to sweep the amended DESOPADEC 2016 budget under the carpet so as to pave way for him to divert our 2016 13% derivation funds for the Asaba Capital Development agency”.

According to NAIG, the ongoing strike by staffers of DESOPADEC buttresses its allegation that 13% derivation funds meant for oil producing communities were being diverted by the governor to fund Asaba Capital Development Agency, despite the fact “that DESOPADEC only gets 50% of the 13% derivation fund”.
