The Kogi State House of Assembly has threatened to institute legal action against the Leadership Newspaper over a publication which the media made, describing members of the State Legislature as renegades who perpetrate scam.
Our Kogi State Correspondent reports that the House also resolved to summon the Editor of the Leadership Newspaper to appear before it to explain why the publication dated Friday January 20 intended “to divide the Assembly”.
These followed a motion of urgent public importance moved by the member representing Bassa Constituency, Hon. Sunday Shigaba.
The Lawmaker stated that the publication titled ‘our stand as Kogi buries ghost workers’ has smeared the integrity of the House and should not be condoned, just as he described the said publication as “an affront on members, mischievous and malicious”.
According to Hon. Shigaba, the publication is an attempt to batter the image of the Kogi State House of Assembly and undermine the constituted powers of the hallowed House.
Seconding the motion, Oluwatoyin Lawal of Yagba West Constituency said the House must take the matter up, saying it is a libelous publication against the sixth Assembly.
The Deputy Speaker, Aliyu Akuh (PDP Omala) joined his colleagues to condemn the publication in strong terms, while the Majority Leader, Mathew Kolawole said the publication is indicting, inciting and incriminating.
In his ruling, Speaker of the House, Ahmed Imam urged members to be resolute in unity as the publication “was done to divide the House”.
