Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Monday Igbuya has hit the Benin Electricity Distribution Company, BEDC, describing the electricity situation in Sapele, one of the oldest towns in Delta State as unbearable and oppressive.
Igbuya who spoke at length during a special stakeholders’ meeting held Monday January 30 at Asaba, Delta State capital to proffer solutions to the worsening electricity situation in Sapele, flayed the failure of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) to provide uninterrupted power supply to Sapele, host to one of Nigeria’s Power Stations.
He criticized BEDC over the firm’s deluge of excuses for non-performance and its shifting of responsibilities to the consumers as well as other partners, saying the high monthly bills did not reflect the epileptic power supply currently being experience.
“What can the good people of Sapele do with epileptic power supply? The situation has killed small and medium scale ventures. It has also increased unemployment and social tension”, the Speaker posited.
