They will be consequences, if issues of marginalization, neglect are not addressed in seven days – MOVEMENT dares NNPCL, JV partners

The Niger Delta Liberation Movement, NDLM, also known as MOVEMENT, has warned the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL and its Joint Venture partners, such as Chevron Nigeria Limited, Shell Petroleum Development Company, SPDC, Heritage Oil and Conoil, saying there will be consequences, if they fail to address perceived marginalization and neglect of their host communities in the Niger Delta region and Warri area to be precise, within seven days.

“They would be shocking consequences, not only to NNPCL and her operational partners, but the Delta State and federal governments, as it has become a reality that the multinationals and the government of the day, listen more and rapidly respond to unwarranted actions laced with violence, than a plea to do the right thing”, the group, averred.

The threat by MOVEMENT, which was contained in a statement made available to Fresh Angle International this morning, Monday May 13, recalled how they (MOVEMENT) claimed responsibility for the infraction that occurred on the 11th of July, 2023 at Chevron's RMT 14 Dibi Field Facility.

The statement, credited to the Secretary of Niger Delta Liberation Movement, NDLM, Mr. Emmanuel Tagbanaraewumi, noted inter-alia: “There will be consequences such as disruption in daily operations and total shutdown of NNPCL and her operational partners (Chevron, SPDC, Heritage Oil, SHELL, Con Oil, etc) facilities in Warri. The safety of lives in those facilities and properties, belonging to those multinationals won't be guaranteed.”

The MOVEMENT, stressed: “The ultimatum, had become necessary in solidarity with the agitation across board recently, which includes, but not limited to the Fitters Senior Staff Association of Nigeria protest of non-employment of indigenous community skill workers in Dibi, Olero, Abiteye, Escravos units.

“The most recent is the graduate association of the trio tribes of Itsekiri, Ijaw and Ilaje agitation of being sidelined in employment by Chevron Nigeria Limited, whose management engaged in alleged illegal employment scheme, refusal of Chevron to convert VTP5/OTP2, and VTP6 with other community workers to permanent staffs.

“It should be noted that the Itsekiri Nation, has been brutally oppressed by the NNPCL and JV partners, operating in Itsekiri homeland in over 60 years of crude oil exploration. There are shocking happenings in those facilities in-house operations. There is a clear example of how subcontractor company to Chevron, Ponticilli Nigeria Ltd, a company owned by none indigenes from the area of operations, employing over 800 fitters and welders, brought from outside Delta State. The same goes for Gvogas Nigeria Ltd, Fairtex Ltd, etc.

“The Offshore Construction Company, also recently recruited. This is same for Heritage Oil, Conoil, SEPLAT, ND Western, etc. We note some of these abnormalities that need to be addressed, which are not limited to the provision of potable water, provision of health care, provision of electricity to host communities, provision of means of transportation within the riverine communities in Warri, employment of graduates across all fields, protection of local community shorelines and flood prevention projects as well as relocation of Chevron Headquarters from Lekki to Warri, not excluding that of other IOCs operating in Warri.”
