Don't participate in the planned protest, IPYM advises Itsekiri youths

Members of Itsekiri Progressives Youth Movement, IPYM, has advised youths of Itsekiri extraction not to participate in the week-long anti government protest starting Thursday August 1, saying it would be counterproductive to the collective interest of Itsekiri Nation.

In a statement made available to newsmen in Warri, Delta State, Monday July 29, IPYM, asserted that the current economic challenges in the country, was not created by the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Administration, saying President Tinubu is doing everything possible to reset the country on the path of economic progress and accelerated development.

IPYM, in the statement e - signed by its President and Secretary,  Comr. Jerry Atiene and Hon. Romeo Ogedegbe, respectively, stated that President Tinubu, through the Presidential Amnesty Office, was already perfecting arrangements to pay the allowances of amnesty students of Itsekiri extraction at Novena University and also settle their school fees, to mitigate their sufferings and enable them collect their certificates upon graduation.

According to the group, the planned protest " which has political, religious and ethnic colourations, would prevent President Tinubu, from executing the Omadino - Escravos Road, Koko- Ogheye- Lagos Road and other key infrastructural projects in Itsekiri land that he has promised "

IPYM, urged organizers of the protest, to ask governors of the 36 states what they are doing with the increased monthly allocations from FAAC, adding: " Since subsidy removal, monthly allocations to states and local government councils, have doubled, yet most of the states, especially oil and gas - rich states, are not doing anything to justify the increased monthly allocations from FAAC."

They add: " Since May 29,2023 when President Tinubu assumed duty, many riverine Itsekiri oil producing  communities, have been lit up with solar energy and other critical infrastructural development, are springing up. This is after over 20 years of neglect by successive federal and state governments."
